Materials that you
are going to need for oil painting are
- Oil Paint & Palette
- Brush Flat No.12,4,3,2,1
- Round No. 000,1,2,4,6
- Linseed Oil
- Turpentine
- Oil Sketch Paper
- Primary Colors
- Secondary color
- Complimentary colors
Primary colors: Cannot be obtained by mixing any other colors.
Secondary colors: Are obtained by mixing Primary Colors.
Complimentary: Are the colors opposite to each other in the color wheel. You can use
complimentary colors to paint highlights and is very useful when mixed with natural grey.
Mixing of a Primary Colors or any Colors with white: I have used Blue and White to get the darker to lighter shade. Darker to Lighter shade is useful when painting portrait or sky etc.
To paint the Sky I have used Cobalt Blue at the Top and then Mixed it with white in the ratio
3:1, 2:3 1:3
Keep cleaning the brush with a waste cloth every now and then while you soften
. Softening is done very gently and lightly .
Textures for grass and trees like in the painting above can be obtained by dabbing the brush.
In oil painting always Paint dark color first.
While painting White for highlights make sure the paint over which
you are painting white has dried out. I have used white over Crimson only after
it dried out. If white was painted over Crimson while it was wet den both colors would mix together and give out Pink. I have used Black to paint the tree. People usually advice on mixing Blue and Brown to get Black but I use Black as it saves Blue and Brown paint tubes from getting empty soon.
